Fuel

Today's rant is all about fuel costs. I am so tired of getting screwed by oil companies. Normally gas is $0.20 a gallon cheaper in Saginaw than in Cheboygan. But lately it's been the same price in Saginaw as Cheboygan. Our dependence on fossil fuels has got to slow down. Tonight the CBS evening news did a piece on school districts and how they are paying double the fuel costs of just a year or two ago, yet their budget is the same. No wonder schools are cutting back on teachers. You can't get you per student money if your students can't get to school.

Corn oil???
So what do we do about this? We need to start a movement toward alternative fuels becoming reality. Did you know a diesel engine can run on corn oil? Yes corn oil, or any kind of vegetable oil even reclaimed from deep fryers. It's called biodiesel and any diesel engine can run on it. So why, with the American farmer rapidly being put out of business, don't we start a movement to produce biodiesel in bulk quantities. After all corn is a crop, it's grown every year so it's a renewable resource. We need to stop our dependency on fossil fuels because the oil cartels have us right where they want us, depending on their product day in and day out.

Church & State

Where are we as a nation headed? What ever happened to "One nation under God..." And "In God we trust"? Why are people trying to take away our Christian heritage? In Texas, a homeless man, yes folks, I said a HOMELESS man, is protesting the statue outside the state legislator depicting the 10 Commandments. WHY? because it offends him. This country was formed on the principals of the Christian religion. In fect, it was a huge reason the colonists separated from England. To not be persecuted for their practice of religion. This is why the separation of church and state was inserted into the constitution, not as an excuse to remove our Christian beliefs from our government.

We, as Americans, and hopefully as Christians, need to rise up against the atheists and any others that are trying to take religion out of the government.

Weekend's thoughts

After a 2-1/2 hour drive home I was able to make the Spirit game (Saginaw's OHL hockey team) just in time. It was a game against Toronto St. Mixe's and the guys seemed lost out there. Were they thinking about the big game on Saturday against the no. 2 team in the league? Perhaps, but whatever they were doing, they weren't thinking about beating a lowly, though hot of late, Toronto team. The out come was a very sloppy 3-1 loss.

The next day was the hype of the season, The game against not only the no.2 team, the Owen Sound Attack, but also televised locally and with the movement of two Spirit players to the attack around Christmas time, it was bound to be a good one. The game proved to be all it was hyped up to be. The Spirit took a 2-0 lead while being badly out-shot and out played by Owen Sound. The Attack were able to knott the score at 2 in the second period. The third period proved quite eventful as just 15 seconds in, former Spirit player, and Captain, Paul Bissonnette and current Spirit captain Tom Harrison. All I can say is, you should have known better Paul! Tom also scored the game winning goal and new Spirit Tommy Mannino scored his second of the game when he hit an empty net over a sprawling Attack defenceman. The poetic justice turns out to be that both of the "bad seeds" that wanted out of Saginaw ended up on the ice for 3 of the 4 Saginaw goals and Paul was on for all 4. Goalie Mike brown kept true to form by slamming his stick around after every goal and shot off the ice like a cat after a mouse as soon as the game was over.

Sunday the Spirit played a lack luster game against Windsor and lost 5-1. Making the playoffs my not be possible now.

In other news, My beloved Toni found a new SUV and asked me to take a look at it. So I headed out to Feeny Chrysler in Midland with her dad to test drive and thoroughly check out the 2000 Chevy blazer. The blazer seemed to be in great shape and with only 54000 miles.

Everyone is doing this "blog" thing so I thought I'd try it. So my day today...
Well, I'm ejoying the wonderful views of Northern Michigan and the temperatures are too warm. The snow is melting and my job site is becomming a muddy mess. Roof is going on and It's finally starting to look like a building. I'm thinking this 35 - 40 degree weather has to end soon, but the forecast says it will be this way at least until Monday.
